2) Tax day is today. I hope by now you’ve either filed or requested an extension… (and if you haven’t, stop reading this newsletter and go do that.) I filed last week and discovered that I owed a lot more federal taxes than I usually do. Like a LOT more. I hadn’t changed anything in my W4 (which is where I put my withholding), so I asked both my employer and TurboTax what was going on. I’ve never had this issue in the past and in fact, usuallly get a refund.
Turns out, in 2020 the IRS changed the withholding tables so the standard amount being withheld changed. I’m not sure why this affected me so much this past year. (Maybe because I changed jobs...?) In any case, just passing this tidbit along in case anyone had the same question.
